woohoo! A book with a story of mine came out. I'm in print! Yay! Well, I guess I was in print before with the sale to Honcho, but now I'm in a book that's on Amazon. Here's the cover:

You know what I noticed? I bought a copy of Hard Hats as a gift for my ex-Polar Bear since he helped me with construction work-talk and the book's page said "4 more in stock" and its sales rank was about 1,342,032. A while after my order it said "3 more in stock" and its sales rank was around 73,664. Wow. Big leap.

Oh well done! Feels good, doesn't it? And yes, that just about sums up the Amazon rankings!!

Hurrah for you!

Thank you! ::HUG:: I was thinking of you yesterday because my boyfriend had Torchwood on, and I believe you said the main character from Torchwood was dreamy. Now that I know what he looks like, I can tell you that you're completely correct.

I wonder how many copies I'd have to buy to make a book go from 74,664 or whatever to the top 100? [info]mroctober said that Amazon isn't actually a big part of the book market, but I'd heard that for erotica, online sales are a bigger percentage since many buyers are too embarrassed to bring erotica books to the counter. Maybe it's not a significant amount though.

It's all very well for a guy who is lucky to have his books in bricks and mortar stores to say that. For those of us with a small publisher who doesn't put its books into many stores, Amazon is really all we have to go on. I'm not talking about anthologies, because they are in stores, but I only get a measly $50 or if i'm lucky $100 for the story, and if the antho sells well in shops, someone makes a lot of money out of it, but it sure isn't the authors!!

And yes, Jack is just gorgeous. I'm glad you finally got to see him

Amazon rankings are really tricky. As few as a hundred sales can push you up to #1 in category, especially if you're in a niched category. There are literally hundreds of thousands of books on Amazon that sell no or one copy, so sell twenty, and you're ahead of masses and masses of people. I think people put more weight on them than they deserve, but it is nice to say "Woo hoo! Look where I am!"

(Which of course I never obsessively do...)

I ghost for business pros, and have one title that was #1 at Amazon in category for weeks, and it has yet to earn through the advance. So the relationship between Amazon ranking and money is really unclear to me.

Congrats on the sale! Cleis is nice to work with, and they've been getting better.

Thanks for the congrats! :) There's a call for submissions from Cleis that's not due until the summer, but I'm going to work on it now (I hope), so maybe by the time its due it will be in good shape.

Congrats and whoa, what a lovely, lovely cover. That will definitely help its sales. :) I'm very tickled to know you've broken your print cherry, if that's accurate to say. Nothing quite like holding a hard copy in your hand.

Email me offline; maybe I can pimp some of these for you at Gay Days...

Best,

Hmm, I tried to post this comment earlier, but it doesn't seem to be here. Anyhow, I said "THANKS!" for the congrats and that I couldn't find your e-mail address. Could you send me an e-mail to GavinAtlas@sbcglobal.net so I have it? Maybe I can get you contact information for the editor, Neil Plakcy. He's super nice.

Purty cover, and I bought my copy today. Can't wait to get my greedy little paws on it.

I haven't received a copy of the book yet either. I'm really looking forward to it. I hope you like it! :)
